Network Hacking - Post Connection Attacks?

Hey!
I’ve started ‘Learn Ethical Hacking From Scratch’ and I’m currently on the Post Connection Attacks -Information Gathering. When using Netdiscover or Zenmap most devices come up as ‘Unknown Vendor’
I live in a house with 4 other people so I know we have a few devices on the Wifi and I know what devices people in the house have (they all know I’m doing this course and allow me to practice during the lectures!)
I can see my phone, as it comes up with the device type and vendor, plus I know my MAC address so I know that one is mine, but the rest just comes up as ‘unknown vendor’?
Is there a reason why this happens?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi Amylou,

In todays devices we have something called random mac address. It gives the device a random mac address and when you try to use zenmap it shows as a uknown device.

You can try to run nmap -sn your ip/subnet
then run arp -an to see all uknow deivce as the real mac address.

Ah amazing! I thought it might be something along the lines of devices having something that stops me from seeing it but I couldn’t find out why when I tried to researh!
Thanks so much for the help
