Question concerning the OSI model

I’m not sure if this is something you can answer but I’ll ask anyway.
Can you explain why routers fall under the Network layer rather than under the Data Link layer where we can find switches and other hw ?

SWITCH = physical addressing (MAC)
ROUTER = logical addressing (IP)

Switches will generally just forward traffic. Routers can make decisions based on different variables (eg. IP address, Ports). But yes as Edwin stated, Layer 2 uses physical addressing and Layer 3 uses logical addressing.

There are exceptions like layer 3 switches but you’ll likely run into those later ( I just ordered a couple myself!).
